The Future Of Our Sport

Video

Boat captain informational video.  Great information to become oriented or refreshed for Lake Agassiz High School Fishing League boat captains.

Boat Captains

The success of Lake Agassiz High School Fishing League is highly dependent on the volunteer boat captains who give their time, talent and passion for fishing to the student anglers.  Boat Captains are don't need to be a professional angler or have year's of experience on the water.  Rather, they are a host and mentor for our student anglers, teaching them about the sport, conservation and safety on the water.  Volunteer Boat Captains agree to bring their boat to designated events and host a team of student anglers for for that event.

Volunteer for one outing for for an entire season, we appreciate any time that you might be able to provide!  Let us know if you're interested by sending us a message below.

Boat Captains . . .

  • Volunteer their time, use of their boat and their knowledge of fishing and boat safety
  • Most events take place from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. within an hour of Fargo/Moorhead
  • Ensure safe operation of the boat at all times during the event
  • Operate the boat any time it is under the power of the primary engine
  • May choose to allow student anglers to operate the trolling motor at their discretion
  • Are allowed to fish along with the student anglers, but the boat captain's fish don't count toward the student anglers' team score for that event.
  • Wear PFD at any time that the boat is under the power of the primary engine

Student Anglers . . .

  • Arrange transportation to/from the event
  • Provide their own PFD, fishing rod/reel and tackle
  • Bring their own water/soft drink and/or snack
  • Respect the decisions of the boat captain
  • Wear PFD at all times during the event

Boat Captain Requirements . . .

  • Pass background check
  • Provide proof of insurance for their watercraft
  • Ensure that their watercraft meets all US Coast Guard, state and local requirements for safe operation
  • Obey state and local fishing regulations
  • Set a positive example of sportsmanship, stewardship and conservation within the sport of fishing and share your passion for the outdoors
