  In supporting the mission of the Lake Agassiz High School Fishing League and promoting the outdoors and sport fishing the Lake Agassiz High School Fishing league is pleased to be awarding three, $1,000 scholarships in 2024. This “Varsity Scholarship” is open to applicants who are Lake Agassiz High School Fishing League members in their Junior or Senior year during the 2023-2024 academic year. 

The Varsity Scholarship is funded by generous donations to the Lake Agassiz High School Fishing League. 

· Active member of any Lake Agassiz High School Fishing League team enrolled by June 1st 2024 and in good standing with their team. 

· Paid member of the Student Angler Federation (Included in LAHSFL membership dues)

· Completing Junior or Senior year in high school in the 2023-2024 academic year.

· Enrolled in post-secondary education at college, university, technical college, trade school or other accredited educational facility within two years. 

· Deadline for application submission July 15th. 

A scholarship committee will determine the three award recipients from the pool of applicants based on the following:

· Attendance and participation at team meetings/events

· Sportsmanship exhibited on and off the water

· Being an ambassador of their team, the league and the sport of fishing

· Academics in school

· Leadership within their team and beyond

· Participation in other extra-curricular activities/organizations

· Tenure with their high school fishing team/league

· Letters of recommendation (not from a parent or relative)

· Other activities/volunteering within the sport of fishing/outdoors

· Performance at LAHSFL and other competitive fishing events

Candidates will be required to submit written answers to the following essay questions:

· Explain why fishing/hunting/outdoors activities are relevant to your education and career goals

· How has your experience in fishing and the Lake Agassiz High School Fishing League shaped you as a person? How has it helped you become a better angler and enjoy your time on the water and in the outdoors?

Each candidate will be required to submit an application including application document, letters of recommendation and answers to essay questions to their LAHSFL team coach no later than July 15th, 2024. Coaches will submit applications to the scholarship committee. 

Recipients will be announced and awarded the 2024 Lake Agassiz High School Fishing League Varsity Scholarship at the awards ceremony at the conclusion of the 2024 season.

  The following individuals have generously agreed to serve on the selection committee to evaluate applications and determine our 2024 recipients.
